I think it's time to start a campaign.
Discussion forums for the tribes here on Tribe are OK. Now there are blogs for individual members. But wouldn't it be good if each tribe had its own wiki, too?
Respond here if you think this is a good idea. And let's see if Tribe take notice.

Re: We want a wiki!
Sat, October 8, 2005 - 10:13 AMthis is an interesting proposal.
most tribes probably wouldn't know what to do with it.
how do you think Tribe.net should introduce this new 'offering' to the general Tribe.net audience?
how do you think most tribes would benefit?
how do you forsee THIS tribe most greatly benefiting?
good thread btw!!! -

Re: We want a wiki!
Fri, October 14, 2005 - 9:19 PMAs a permanent interactive information store.
trouble is, in so many tribes it would be hijacked so easily. You need the semi-trusted interaction to keep the discourse on target.
hrm.
I'd love in a few tribes, however. It would be a nice extensibility; one of the reasons I want to edit posts is so that threads serve as an information storehouse -- a USEFUL storehouse, one that is pruned and edited so that extraneous material can be, uh, pruned. -

Well, would it matter? Or rather, tribe membership is the policy. Some tribes (and their wikis) would be free-for-alls. People who want good wikis form tribes and restrict access. (I'm assuming only tribe members can edit pages.)

Re: We want a wiki!
Sat, October 15, 2005 - 11:16 AMI'm in tribes that a pretty well run, but still delete threads and posts becuase things get out of hand. that would be worse in a wiki.

Re: We want a wiki!
Wed, November 2, 2005 - 12:56 PMyes how would they use it indeed?
i think it would be super interesting, but i wonder what kind of tribes have persistent knowledge that need/wants to be captured in wiki. to me, the most interesting/successful wikis are somehow project oriented-- very few tribes share this kind of focus. -

Re: We want a wiki!
Wed, November 2, 2005 - 1:09 PMDisagree, I think there are lots of tribes which could be knowledge oriented : for example the organic architecture or solar energy tribes that I'm a member of are full of interesting questions and discussions about building techniques, materials, efficiencies of energy generating sources etc. all of which would benefit from a permanent record. -

Re: We want a wiki!
Sat, December 3, 2005 - 7:15 PMI don't know about how absolutely valuable it would be, but it would certainly be different -- nobody else is doing it.
and that's gotta be valuable for marketing.
